Secondary Reading Council of Florida

Teacher of the Year Award

 

The Secondary Reading Council of Florida (SRCF), a special interest council of FRA and an affiliate of IRA, has established this award to honor an exemplary reading teacher at the secondary level. 

                       

Nominations are solicited from the districts via a letter, and/or through the SRCF website.

 

Information and deadlines can be obtained from the SRCF website at www.flsrc.org

           

The following criteria must be addressed in the documentation:

 

  1. The nominee is currently involved in teaching reading at the secondary level (6-12) middle or senior high school.
  2. The nominee should hold membership in SRCF and FRA (documentation is required).
  3. The nominee should provide evidence of innovative teaching techniques in the teaching of reading.  The information should be in the form of a portfolio of not less than two pages.
  4. The nominee should provide three (3) letters of recommendation:

                       

      a.      One letter from a student

      b.         One letter from a supervisor (principal and/or district level   

                   personnel)

c.                    One letter from a colleague or parent

 

  1. Examples of student work in the form of a portfolio, project or other means to demonstrate a special focus on reading

 

The award recipient will receive $250 to use for future reading materials (personal or professional), a certificate and free registration to next year’s Secondary Reading Conference.  The award will be made at the Secondary Reading Council meeting in April.  A letter will be sent to the recipient’s superintendent and a publicity release will be sent to local media by the Awards Committee.

 

Deadline for 2007-08 nomination is October 1, 2007.
